Glossary

Here is a small glossary of terms I use in the story. Some come from the elvish language I made up, some are technical terms which explain some peculiarities of the characters.
Since I'm still writing the story, this glossary is largely incomplete and will probably change a lot.
Terms are in alphabetical order.

Aria - Also called Light Elves. Their powers are based around Light. They can cast all kinds of spells; their specialty is defense and healing. Their kingdom is the Arialtha. Their wings are white.

Arialtha - The kingdom of the Light Elves. It's in an alternate dimension to that of the Earth.

Awakening - The process through which an Elf gains her powers.

Elements - Elements are everywhere in the world. All Elves can talk to them and control them to some extent; Aiathl and A'iathl are the only ones who can control them completely. The 'high' elements are Fire, Water, Air and Earth; the 'lesser' elements, such as wind, rain, etc., originally started as manifestation of one or more of the 'high' elements, then gained independence. Light and Darkness are the exception: though Light is made of all the four 'high' elements combined, and Darkness is the negation of the elements (no other element can exist in darkness), they are not considered 'lesser' elements. They belong to a special class, the 'power' elements, because the power of Light elves and Dark Elves, respectively, is largely based on them.

Elves - Elves could be considered a 'subrace' of humans, since they are born in normal human families and are normal humans until fifteen. Elves are almost all female; when they turn fifteen, they gain magic powers (a process called awakening) and access to an alternate dimension where the Elves' kingdom is. Elves have a much longer lifespan than humans; they live about three hundred years, and stop aging permanently when they're twentyfive. They have large wings which they can use to fly, and are generally stronger than humans. There are two kind of Elves: Light Elves and Dark Elves.

Lathie - Elvish word meaning "daughter".

Tharna - Elvish word meaning "mother".
